Bars in the DC area committed to showing all Nats games

WASHINGTON — Dozens of bars and restaurants in the D.C. area are pledging to show all of this season’s Nationals games after some fans took to social media to vent their frustrations about the difficulty of catching the game at their favorite watering hole.

Chris Brown, a Nationals spokesman, said the “Curly W Restaurant & Bar Alliance” includes about 45 restaurants and bars in the D.C. area. Participating establishments, which pledge to show all the games on at least one of their TVs, are receiving “bar kits” from the team, including posters, pocket schedules, team flags, coasters, koozies, hats and bottle openers.

Brown said there will be other other special prizes and incentives, including free game tickets.

The lack of team spirit at many D.C.-area bars prompted tons of tweets from frustrated fans and even a September 2016 plea from D.C. sports broadcaster Danny Rouhier posted on The Washington Post sports blog: “Dear D.C. bars: Please put on the Nats game. Now.

Restaurants and bars can sign up to join the alliance by emailing NRBA@nationals.com.
