WASHINGTON — If you’re a fan of food, fireworks and music, boy are you in luck! Alexandria’s Live Music Week starts Saturday, July 11 and continues through July 18.
On Saturday night, there’s a fireworks show at 9:30 p.m. on Alexandria’s waterfront, as well as a performance by the Alexandria Symphony Orchestra. Tower House, a dance band featuring both Motown and Classic Rock, will also be featured.
You can celebrate the 266th birthday of Alexandria, plus the 239th birthday of the United States. There will be birthday cake, and you can bring or buy everything from ice cream to barbecue sandwiches and kettle korn.
The Port Brewing Co. celebrates Live Music Week’s kick-off with an Old Town Alexandria pub crawl Saturday night, or you can check out a bit of jazz with Elijah Jamal Balbed at the Torpedo Factory Art Center. The Deadcat Bounce Band is at 219 Restaurant, and you can catch Girl X and King Street Blues.
The Birchmere is featuring a plethora of music all week, ending with The Bacon Brothers next weekend. Murphy’s Irish Pub, John Strongbow’s Tavern and The Light Horse Restaurant are offering up 10 days of live Irish, Celtic and rock music, including The Fighting Jamesons. There will be country at Nick’s Nightclub, including The Josh Phillips Band. Blackwall Hitch has daily performances of local, regional and national acts including Lovebettie. Daily Irish music and rock is on tap at Daniel O’Connell’s.
