Local schools make most underrated colleges list

WASHINGTON —  What do Howard University, St. Johns College in Annapolis and James Madison University have in common?  All three have landed on BuzzFeed’s list of the 27 most underrated colleges in America.

It can be fairly argued that Howard, one of the nation’s most prestigious historically black colleges is more famous than underrated,  yet it’s 18 on BuzzFeed’s list.   A member of the BuzzFeed community writes that “class sizes are great…students know how to have fun while remaining studious.”

St Johns College in Annapolis is not as well known as its neighbor the U.S. Naval Academy, but the liberal arts school must be doing something right, it’s been educating students since 1696. On BuzzField’s list it’s cited for producing “creative and capable minds that are willing and able to continue to learn for the rest of their lives.”

James Madison University is more than a two hour drive from the D.C. area, but plenty of  the Harrisonburg, Virginia school’s alumni live and work in the D.C. area.

A JMU supporter writes on BuzzFeed’s list of the nation’s most underrated colleges: “We have school spirit, tradition, beautiful campus, secret tunnels and legends…”

Other schools that made the BuzzFeed list include Drexel in Philadelphia,  University of Utah in Salt Lake City and Tulane in New Orleans.
