For one day, driving Express Lanes a charitable trip

WASHINGTON — Here’s a chance to drive either the 95 or the 495 Express Lanes and at the same time help out local fire departments.  It’s called “Drive to Donate.”

It’s a charity program says Mike McGurk a spokesman for Transurban.  Transurban is the company that manages the Northern Virginia express lanes.

On Saturday, March 21 all of the tolls collected will go to first responders in Fairfax, Prince William and Stafford counties.

McGurk says, “It made a lot of sense with the recent opening of the 95 Express  Lanes.”

He adds that it’s a great way to celebrate the opening of the lanes.

McGurk says, “It’s a way to give back to the greater community that we’re now a part of with that extension down into Prince William and down into Stafford.”

Safety is a top priority on the Express Lanes, says McGurk, and this is about supporting those who help keep their communities safe everyday.

Drivers need an EZ Pass to take the Express Lanes.

McGurk says, “Even if you have those three people in your vehicle, if you’re eligible for that HOV trip, consider putting it over to toll mode because your toll is going to a great cause.”
