Rockville vies to become Hockeyville USA

WASHINGTON — Before the puck drops on the Washington Capitals’ 2016 Stanley Cup Playoff run, a D.C.-area city is hoping to claim its own title: Hockeyville USA.

As part of a promotion with the NHL and Kraft, the Rockville Ice Arena is one of 10 finalists up for the honor, which will receive $150,000 toward renovations for their facility.

Rockville Ice Arena is home to the Wheaton Ice Skating Academy, Hockey North America, the United Capital Blades Speedskating Club, the USA Warriors program for wounded American servicemen and servicewomen and local high school hockey.

Voting is open through April 14, and four of the 10 nominees will move on to the second round, guaranteeing them at least a $25,000 prize. Each eligible voter can vote up to 50 times per method per day. Check out krafthockeyville.com for more information.
