Rites of fall: Starbucks hatches popular fall drink

WASHINGTON — The giraffe’s baby, the corpse flower, the giant panda cubs, the eaglet eggs.

You’ve waited with bated breaths for each to arrive, and now Starbucks wants you to behold the 2017 birth of its favorite fall drink.

The coffee chain is launching its iconic Pumpkin Spice Latte — for some, the advent of all things autumn — in a video that shows a pumpkin on a nest in a barn waiting to hatch. Once in a while, a plaid-clad person comes in to check on the nesting pumpkin and performs tasks, such as rolling around a smaller pumpkin or setting down cards on the hay-strewn floor.

The livestream, which Starbucks teased for a week hinting at an official launch date, caused confusion, with some anxious customers and baristas not knowing whether it is available or not.

The Seattle company started serving the drink Friday, but it is not officially on the menu yet, Business Insider reported.
