Md. driver charged with manslaughter after pedestrian dies

ELLICOTT CITY, Md. (AP) — Howard County police say a woman has been indicted on a vehicular manslaughter charge after the death of a pedestrian who was hit in Ellicott City.

The department said in a news release that a grand jury indictment was returned Monday. It charged Brittany McElhiney, 28, of Ellicott City with vehicular manslaughter and driving while impaired by drugs.

Police say on Sept. 24, McElhiney was driving on the wrong side of the road on Green Clover Drive. Officers say McElhiney hit another car, then hit a pedestrian, Robert Dukehart, 78, of Ellicott City.

Authorities say Dukehart died in a hospital on Oct. 20.
