What’s open, closed on Presidents Day?

WASHINGTON — As it does every year, Presidents Day lands on the third Monday in February in recognition of George Washington’s birthday.

There will be changes to what services are available and what offices are open on Feb. 19. Most government offices, courts and banks are closed. Here’s everything else you need to know to plan for the federal holiday.

Transportation:

HOV restrictions will not be enforced in Northern Virginia.

WMATA: Metrorail will operate on a Saturday schedule and Metrobus will operate on a supplemental Saturday schedule.

The MARC Train will operate on an “R” schedule on all three lines on Monday.

The Virginia Railway Express will not operate on Monday.

The Alexandria DASH will operate on a Saturday service schedule.

The ART bus will operate on a holiday service on Monday. The only ART buses operating (41, 42, 43, 45, 51, 55, 77 and 87) will run on Saturday schedules.

The Fairfax Connector will operate on a holiday weekday schedule.

The CUE bus will operate on a modified weekday schedule with only one bus on each route.

Baltimore County’s CountyRide will not operate.

Frederick County’s TransIt will operate on a regular schedule.

The Loudoun County Bus will operate on a “significantly reduced schedule.”

Montgomery County’s Ride On bus system will operate on a modified schedule.

MTA 505 and 515 Commuter Bus will not run.

Howard County’s RTA will operate on a regular weekday schedule.

PRTC’s OmniRide will not operate on Monday.

TheBus will have regular service except on Route 51 (service to the Equestrian Center/Courthouse) on Monday. Call-A-Bus service, including dialysis transportation, will not operate on Monday. Services will resume on Tuesday.

Parking:

Parking meters do not have to be paid on Presidents Day in D.C., Alexandria, Arlington and Montgomery County. All parking regulations and fees will be in effect in Howard County and Baltimore County.

One public library is open in every ward.

Trash and recycling will be collected on Tuesday.

Maryland: 

Anne Arundel County:
All county offices are closed. There are no trash collection changes on Monday but landfill and recycling centers are closed.

Baltimore County:
All main offices including courts, the health department, senior centers and libraries will be closed. Trash and recycling collection will happen on schedule and landfill and drop-off centers will remain open.

Calvert County:
Government offices will be closed. All four libraries throughout the county will be closed.

Charles County:
All four library branches will be closed. No changes to recycling and yard waste collections.

Frederick County:
Landfill, transfer station and recycling drop-off centers will remain open.

Howard County:
Trash will be collected on a regular schedule; food scraps and yard trim curbside collection will occur. Landfill will be open.

Closed: Animal Shelter, 50+ Centers, Robinson Nature Center, County Historic Sites

Montgomery County:
County public libraries will be closed.

County-provided recycling or trash collection will happen on Tuesday instead of Monday.

County liquor stores (DLC) will open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Aquatics programs and facilities will be open; all other classes and programs are canceled.

Senior centers and community centers will be closed.

Prince George’s County:
The following facilities are closed: Animal Services Facility (3750 Brown Station Road); Electronics Recycling Acceptance Site; Household Hazardous waste acceptance site.

No bulky trash collection appointments. Collections resume Tuesday.

Trash collection in county-contracted areas and curbside recycling collection will occur Tuesday through Friday.

In Laurel, residential trash and recycling will slide one day on Monday and Tuesday. Wednesday, Thursday and Friday trash and recycling will resume as normal.

Virginia: 

Alexandria:
Trash and recycling will be delayed one day.

Public libraries in Alexandria will be closed on Presidents Day.

Chinquapin recreation center will be open from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Charles Houston recreation center will be open from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Torpedo Factory Art Center will open. All other recreation facilities will be closed.

Arlington County:
Government offices and facilities will be closed on Monday.

Trash and recycling will be collected on a regular schedule.

Fairfax County:
No trash collection on Monday. Monday and Tuesday routes will be collected on Tuesday. Regular collection will resume on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.

Prince William County:
Libraries in Prince William County will be closed on Presidents Day.

No changes to trash collection in the county.
