Matt About Town: Doughnuts with a side of history — explore the District’s Underground Donut Tour

DC tour goes off the beaten path to find the District’s best donuts

If you’re looking for a quirky tour of D.C., look no further than the District’s Underground Donut Tour.

In today’s episode of “Matt About Town,” WTOP’s Matt Kaufax trekked through the heart of the city trying every delectable, doughy bite he could get his hands on.

The Underground Donut Tour was started in Chicago back in 2015, but now it’s picking up steam in the District.

Along the mile-and-a-half-long walking tour that starts along Pennsylvania Avenue, guests can expect to try sweet treats from hidden doughnut shop gems and get secret menu items from some of the more popular places they might already know.

But perhaps the best part of this tour is that you also learn about obscure D.C. history as you travel from doughnut to doughnut.

As Matt found out, a side of history is the perfect compliment to an afternoon sugar rush in the nation’s capital.

You can book your own doughnut tour experience online.

“Matt About Town” airs every Tuesday and Thursday on WTOP at 7:45 a.m., and runs throughout the rest of the day on 103.5 FM. His video pieces are always posted on wtop.com.
