D.C.’s best place to take in the beauty of Mother Nature isn’t a spot you might expect.
In today’s episode of “Matt About Town,” WTOP’s Matt Kaufax steps off the beaten path to bring you the latest views from the Spring Horticulture Tour series at Arlington National Cemetery.
During his walking tour, Matt talked to many guests who admitted to being blown away by the vastness of Arlington National Cemetery’s 639 acres of plant life.
In talking with the cemetery’s horticulture experts, he also realized that the work being done at Arlington National to preserve plants and trees adds a whole other dimension to the remembrance of those who have served in the military and are buried at ANC — something that resonates this time of year.
Check out Matt’s video of his experience walking through ANC’s hallowed grounds, where you can’t truly appreciate your surroundings until you stop to smell the flowers.
The best part? These tours are free!
There are still multiple events of the Spring Horticulture Tour series you can check out before the summer season starts.
The cemetery will be hosting a walking tour, “Turf & Trees of ANC,” on Friday, June 7, from 9-11 a.m.
ANC is also offering “160 Years of Evolution and Expansion at Arlington National Cemetery: A History and Horticulture Tram Tour” on June 15 at 9:30 a.m.
You can visit the cemetery’s website to learn more about each session.
‘Matt About Town’ airs every Tuesday and Thursday on WTOP at 7:45 a.m., and runs throughout the rest of the day on 103.5 FM. His video pieces are always posted on WTOP.com.
