Business in the front, party in the back: Check out Md.’s newest competition dedicated to an epic hairstyle

Celebrating an iconic hairstyle at Maryland's newest state competition

It’s a hairstyle that’s got a lot of nicknames: The Kentucky Waterfall, the Mississippi Top Hat, the Tennessee Tail, etc.

But did you know the mullet is also sacred in Maryland?

In today’s episode of “Matt About Town,” WTOP’s Matt Kaufax recaps his trip to the Maryland State Fair, where he took in the spectacle of their first ever “Mullet Madness” competition.

It’s the first year the Maryland State Fair decided to put on the competition, but you wouldn’t know it by how much participation and enthusiasm there was.

On a brisk Sunday morning, hundreds crammed into wooden benches and cheered on contestants, all of whom brought their best flow to the event stage. As Matt found out, it doesn’t matter what style your mullet comes in, only that you let that party in the back fly.

Come along with Matt on his video journey, where he met some colorful characters and donned a mullet of his own!
