Bob Dole lay in state Thursday at the U.S. Capitol, where President Joe Biden and other leaders paid tribute to the longtime Republican leader.

Dole, a World War II veteran who served in Congress for 36 years and was the GOP presidential nominee in 1996, died Sunday at the age of 98. He announced in February a diagnosis of stage 4 lung cancer.

His funeral will be held Friday at the Washington National Cathedral and will be livestreamed at the World War II Memorial, whose creation Dole spearheaded.
