Car Review: Infiniti QX55 is the new luxury crossover that uses a swoopy carlike body style to stand out

A small luxury crossover with big style the 2022 Infiniti QX55 looks to make a name for itself.

When you want a crossover, but you don’t want that rough and tough boxy SUV look, there are options for you. Infiniti joins the fray for 2022 with the new QX55, a more stylish version of the popular QX50 compact crossover. The coupe-like roofline gives the QX55 a much sportier look than most other crossovers on the road. Infiniti uses a special double-arch grill that gives the crossover an upscale look. The body has many curves and interesting angles, not since the Infiniti FX crossovers of nearly twenty years ago have they really stood out in the crossover market.

All that style continues inside with a classy two-tone interior that is inviting with comfortable seats covered in leather. The front passengers have good space, head and legroom. Those in the back are not as fortunate with the headroom because of that sloping bodyline, but the seats slide forward and back for good legroom. The cargo space is not as restricted as some other coupe-styled crossovers on the market, but it is not as large as the QX50. The dual screens in the center console can be daunting to use at first. But after an hour or so I didn’t seem to have any issues.

When you have a coupe-like style, you equate it with impressive performance. I had my doubts when I saw it comes with a 2.0L turbo engine. Still, I was pleasantly surprised by the 268hp punch this engine delivered. It seems more responsive than the QX50 I drove a year ago. The QX55, while no sports car, did not disappoint in ride either. The adaptive steering allows for some spirited driving when the mood moves you and it does not beat you up rough roads.
