A lot of people are looking for a luxury mid-size SUV like this Genesis GV70.
Genesis said this is the brand’s most popular model. If you’re not familiar, Genesis is Hyundai’s luxury marque, and it delivers that luxury in spades.
Inside, you’ll notice nappa leather, a panoramic sunroof, a premium audio system, a sea of carbon fiber trim and even fingerprint recognition, if you don’t want to use your key to get in or start the car.
Up front is a new 27-inch OLED display that stretches from in front of the driver to the middle of the car. It even shows you the weather conditions, complete with a mini-forecast, right on the dash, near the speedometer.
Also hard to miss: the bold decision to make the seat belt straps orange, on top of the quilted, cream-colored leather, which features orange stitching to boot. That leather is further set off by orange ambient lighting on the dash, doors and center console.
Outside, this is painted Ceres Blue, which Genesis said, “was inspired by the dwarf planet between the orbits of Mars and Jupiter.” I say, “Hey! That color costs $650!”
Punctuating that exterior blue is a huge, crest-shaped mesh grille. Interestingly, the dark gray wheels have black hash marks on them.
This should be quite a performer with a big, turbo six-cylinder in a relatively compact vehicle. But between the turbo lag and the transmission making up its mind, it wasn’t as much of a lightning bolt as I thought it would be.
Still, it can move, so it’s very good that it has a verbal traffic camera warning system.
Overall, this GV70, redesigned for 2026, holds its own and then some against the likes of the Porsche Macan, BMW X3 and others.
This one is officially known as the GV70 3.5T Sport Prestige AWD, which is basically the fanciest one you can get.
It comes to $72,225, after shipping.
A base GV70 starts at $50,480, after shipping.
