‘Tis the season when calendars are packed with parties, galore.

Magruder keeps two staple items in her bag to take an outfit from day to night: red lipstick and a statement necklace. She says a red lip and a little sparkle around the neckline will transform even the most buttoned-up business attire to cocktail appropriate.
Around the holidays, she also throws a pair of heels in her bag — “something with a little sparkle or something kind of interesting” — as well as a sequins blazer. “It kind of just brings [an outfit] to life,” she says.

Save the LBD (little black dress) for the rest of the year. Magruder says the Christmas season is the perfect time to wear red to all of your holiday parties — and she’s seeing the color pop up everywhere.
“It’s such a fun holiday color as it is, and it’s on-trend in clothing,” she says.

If an all-red outfit is too bold, give your feet a pop of color.
“Sometimes a little suede pump in red is a great touch and you can still wear your black cocktail dress,” Magruder says.

Magruder says sequins are always fun to wear around the holidays, and there are a number of different ways to sport the sparkle. If your party is on the dressier side, an all-sequin dress is always an option.
One of Magruder’s favorite looks is a sequin skirt. She says it’s incredibly versatile because it can be dressed down.
“What I’ve started doing — I have one in a rose gold color — I’ve been pairing it with just a really nice, basic T-shirt, tucking it in, and maybe a little bit of soft jewelry with it, and it’s just feels like you’re festive and glittery and sparkly, but you’re not overdoing it,” she says.

You don’t need to dress up for every event. If you want to go more casual, but still maintain an updated look, opt for a pair of dark skinny jeans, a tunic or T-shirt, a structured blazer, a statement necklace and heels.
“It’s an easy way to feel dressy and feel like you can go out for the night, but not feel like you have to be so overdone,” Magruder says.

Don’t underestimate the power of a little bling. When it comes to accessories, Magruder says a statement necklace or earrings adds glitz and glamour to your look.
“If you just a little statement earring and pair it with your nice little plaid button-up shirt, it can really take the look over the edge and be more holiday festive,” she says.

This season, Magruder is seeing a lot of tulle skirts. Pair one with a tucked-in blouse or tee for a casual, yet festive, look.

Over-the-knee boots are back this winter.
“There are a lot of bohemian-style dresses, and when you pair them with the over-the-knee boot, it’s a really chic look for the holidays,” Magruder says.

Love pleats? You’ll be seeing more of them this winter. Magruder says pleated skirts and dresses are making a comeback, so take the look for a spin at your next party.
