Police investigate after thieves ransack string of ATMs in Fairfax Co.

Police are investigating a string of ATM thefts in Fairfax County, Virginia.

Around 3:08 a.m. Tuesday morning, police responded to a report about three suspects trying to forcibly access an ATM inside the TD Bank on 6566 Little River Turnpike. When police arrived, they discovered the would-be thieves had been unable to force the ATM open and no money was taken.

A few minutes later, around 3:13 a.m., an armed robbery was reported at a 7-Eleven store on 4818 N. Beauregard Street, about 2 miles away.

Police believe these incidents are connected.

Police are also looking into two separate incidents involving ATM thefts that happened on Nov. 2. Just before 3:45 a.m., three suspects entered a 7-Eleven store in Kingstowne, pulled out a gun and took money from an ATM, police said.

According to police, earlier that morning, an employee reported that an individual tried to steal money from an ATM at the Burke and Herbert Bank on Franconia Road.

Police are still investigating whether the earlier incidents are related to the thefts this week.

Police said they’re pursuing leads and working with other police departments in the area to help identify the suspects.

They ask anyone with information about the ATM thefts to call them at 703-246-7800. Those who tip anonymously by phone at 1-866-411-8477 are entitled to a cash reward.
