Headed to the park with your new Christmas gift? Not so fast in Fairfax Co.

TYSONS, Va. — You may well have received some new toys to play with outside and are probably tempted to test them out, or show them off, at your local park.

But some of your gifts are not welcome there.

Drones are banned from all Fairfax County parks — they are generally banned inside the Capital Beltway and near airports.  Remote-controlled vehicles such as boats, planes and cars, along with hobby rockets, also are banned from parks.

The Fairfax County Park Authority says projectiles are banned from parks.

That new set of golf clubs can only be used at the county’s golf courses.  Bows and arrows are also not welcome at county parks, unless you are part of a special program.

Tasers, spears, slingshots, darts and “other high-speed missile projectiles” are also banned from parks.

Your new puppy is welcome, if it is leashed.  However, puppies younger than four months old or are in heat cannot use the county’s dog parks. If your child — or you — got the new pony you’ve been always dreaming of, the parks authority asks you to stay in equestrian designated areas.

Fishing rods are welcome: You just need to follow Virginia state laws.

Ice skates are welcome at the Mount Vernon ice rink, but you are asked to not try them out on any other body of water that has not been cleared for ice skating.

New bikes, roller skates and skis should be kept on established trails, walkways and roadways. Skiing, sledding and snow tubing are not allowed at the county’s golf courses.

You are welcome to listen to your music at your local park, with headphones or earbuds.  If you want others to hear your music, you need written permission.
