Va. 18-year-old pleads guilty to supplying drugs in classmate’s death

WASHINGTON — An 18-year-old Clifton man on Monday entered a guilty plea in the overdose death of his Centreville High School classmate.

David Evers pleaded guilty to distribution of morphine with no plea agreement, said Fairfax county States Attorney Ray Morrogh.

The 18-year-old entered an Alford plea, which maintains his innocence, but acknowledges the evidence against him to prove his guilt.

Evers turned himself into police in May after he learned of an array of drug charges against him related to the overdose death of 17-year-old Alexia Springer. He was indicted May 19, 2016.

A friend found Springer dead in her home in March. An autopsy found a fatal combination of alcohol, morphine, oxycodone and anti-anxiety medication, alprazolam in her system.

Evers’ bond was revoked and for the felony offense, he faces five to 40 years in prison. His sentencing is set for Dec. 2.
