A vehicle fire in Southeast D.C. has sent four people to a hospital and led to the arrest of a woman accused of starting the blaze.

D.C. police said, just before 6:20 p.m., they and D.C. fire officials were called to the 3900 block of 4th Street for a report of a vehicle on fire.

Upon arrival, they found a man, woman and two young children inside the burning car. All four were taken to a local hospital where the man remains in critical condition.

Three others —  a woman and two children, who police said appear to be younger than four — have been hospitalized with minor injuries.

A spokesperson for D.C. police told WTOP that an unidentified woman appears to have set the vehicle on fire. That suspect remains in custody and is awaiting charges in the fire.

Police did not have information on how the fire was started and could not say if there was a relationship between the woman who started the fire and the people inside the car.
