WASHINGTON — Police arrested a man they say injured an officer with his car Thursday evening.

The officer was working on an investigation around 10:30 p.m. with the Child and Family Services Agency in the 4700 block of Brooks Street and tried to arrest Darius Avery Gross, 25, who was in a vehicle.

Gross then hit the gas to flee the scene, causing the officer to be dragged by the vehicle before freeing himself, according to police.

The D.C. police officer was taken to the hospital Thursday night with severe but non-life threatening injuries after the assault in Northeast.

On Friday, police arrested Gross and charged the Northeast D.C. resident with aggravated assault while armed.

Earlier Friday, police issued a notice that they were searching for Gross.
