Police: Man breaks into DC Chipotle, eats food

WASHINGTON — D.C. police are searching for a man who broke into a downtown Chipotle store early on New Year’s Day and ate $60 worth of barbacoa.

Around 3 a.m. Jan. 1, a man forced open the doors of a Chipotle at 601 F St. Northwest, near the Capital One Arena, that was closed for the night. While the suspect was in the restaurant, he ate a tray of barbacoa — shredded beef — valued at $60, and drank a $3 apple juice, according to the police report.

The suspect also destroyed the store’s alarm system, police said.

The location’s general manager arrived around 6 a.m. to find the suspect sitting on a stool in the seating area. The suspect then left and went to the neighboring McDonald’s, according to the police report.

Security camera footage from inside the Chipotle captured the ravenous suspect’s overnight antics and provided a look at him — he wore a dark, floppy hat, baggy pants and a backpack at the time of the crime.

Anyone who can identify the suspect, or who has knowledge of the incident, can call police at (202) 727-9099 or text a tip to the department’s tip line at 50411.

The suspect faces charges of burglary, theft and destruction of property.
