Woman killed in hit-and-run in Northwest DC

WASHINGTON — A woman was struck and killed while crossing the street early Tuesday morning in the Columbia Heights neighborhood in Northwest D.C.

The woman, identified by police as 54-year-old Jacqueline Cole, was struck just before 6:30 a.m. while crossing 14th Street near Parkwood Place. Police said Cole was in a marked crosswalk when she was struck.

D.C. police said the vehicle fled the scene. Police said Cole was taken to the hospital where she died.

A police spokeswoman told WTOP Cole had a hearing impairment. Police said the hit-and-run is still under investigation. Police said members of the department’s Deaf and Hard of Hearing Liaison Unit are assisting investigators.

Police are asking people to look out for a black SUV-type vehicle that has damage to the front and headlights.
