WASHINGTON (AP) — D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser is heading to Mexico City to discuss how cities can fight climate change amid uncertainty about U.S. climate policy.
Bowser will join more than 60 city leaders at the C40 Mayors Summit on Thursday and Friday. She says her participation “signifies D.C.’s commitment to the Paris agreement and securing a future for our city in the face of climate change.”
President-elect Donald Trump said during the campaign that he would “cancel” the Paris agreement to make global reductions in carbon emissions. He appeared to soften his position in a recent interview with The New York Times, saying he now has an “open mind” about the accord.
Bowser says the District is moving forward with efforts to reduce emissions and make the city more sustainable.
