Man sentenced to 60 years for DC rape

WASHINGTON — A 22-year-old man who maintained his innocence has been sentenced to 60 years in prison for the brutal rape of a mother, as she slept in her bed.

Antwon Pitt was called “a grave danger to the community” by D.C. Superior Court Judge Florence Pan before she sentenced Pitt to 60 years behind bars and a lifetime of supervised release.

The victim, a college professor, suffered fractures to her eye socket and cheekbone during the rape, in October 2015.

When Pitt was arrested, he had a GPS monitoring device he had cut from his ankle, after a previous arrest.

In sentencing arguments, Pitts’ lawyer said he had been the victim of physical and sexual abuse, since he was young child.

Pitt declined to address the judge before sentencing.

Pan said Pitt is “a violent and aggressive individual,” and noted he has “a lack of remorse or acceptance of responsibility.”

The judge’s sentence concurred with the recommendation from prosecutors.
