Pepco: Power outage affects thousands around Shaw area

WASHINGTON — More than 5,800 Pepco customers are still without power as of 2 a.m. Saturday in the Shaw neighborhood.

The major outage started around 5 p.m. Friday and affected about 11,000 customers due to a transformer fire with a smoking manhole at 14th and V streets NW.

The power outages hit right in the heart of the 14th Street corridor with several popular restaurants and bars in the area. Several traffic signals were out in the area so drivers were urged to use caution.

Pepco said crews were  working on repairs.
