WASHINGTON — You may have your favorite sports bar. But could it also be your favorite political bar?
“D.C. loves treating politics just as a sports, and taking it in with like-minded people,” said Missy Frederick, Washington Editor of Eater.com.
“Many restaurants are getting in on the action by offering specials, (and) screening the speeches live.”
And the action just doesn’t happen every four years in the summer.
“Sometimes people will show up during the State of The Union Address, (or) the different debates,” she said.
Sometimes political events favor a specific party, such as the recent “wake” for the GOP at The Dubliner on Capitol Hill.
And Frederick said there’s a good bet you’ll spot your favorite aide to the Deputy Assistant Director of the Committee to, well, whatever.
“A lot of these places on are Capitol Hill, so they’ll see staffers come in.”
If you want to get active, head to Lincoln on Vermont Avenue, where you can vote with your drink, she said.
“They have different theme cocktails. One represents Clinton and the other represents Trump. People basically cast a vote by buying a cocktail that pairs up with their candidate. They’ll tally up who the winner is by the end of the election cycle.”
