Chickenpox keeps U.S. Secret Service officer from hearing on child porn indictment

WASHINGTON — A grand jury had indicted a U.S. Secret Service officer with attempting to transfer obscene materials to a minor. This come after prosecutors say the officer texted an undercover detective who he thought was a 14-year-old girl.

But Lee Robert Moore, a 37-year-old Maryland resident, did not attend his detention hearing at US federal court in Delaware Wednesday morning because of a chickenpox outbreak in the detention center where he’s being held.

The Federal Detention Center in Philadelphia confirms no one is going in or out to prevent further exposure. It’s unclear if Moore has the viral infection.

A recorded phone greeting from the detention center says several cases of chickenpox have been identified and it’s suspending inmate visitation.

Delaware investigators say Moore texted sexually explicit messages on the job — once from a guard booth while he checked visitors in to the White House. He turned himself in to Maryland State Police.

His hearing has been postponed indefinitely, according to spokeswoman Kimberlynn Reeves with the Delaware State’s Attorney’s Office.
