Woman arrested after jumping White House barricade

WASHINGTON — A woman has been arrested after jumping over a barricade in front of the White House on Friday evening, according to the U.S. Secret Service.

The woman has not yet been identified, but authorities said she was immediately detained and charged with unlawful entry after jumping over a barricade described as a “bike rack” by the Secret Service. The barricades have been placed several feet in front of the White House fence on Pennsylvania Avenue in Washington, D.C., NBC News reports.

The incident took place around 7 p.m. Friday night and resulted in the White House being put on lockdown for about an hour.

Metal spikes were installed atop the White House fence on July 1 after recent incidents of intruders making it over the fence and onto the lawn.
