Friends, family and community members attended the silent vigil on Alabama Avenue in Southeast, NBC Washington reports.

Milton, 27, was shot while walking along Good Hope Road in Southeast on May 27. Police said she wasn’t the intended target.

Milton worked for Capital Community News for over three years.

“Every night, we came home and that little girl had that light on and she would type up story after story after story,” her father, Kenneth McClenton, told NBC Washington on Wednesday. “She never gave up, she never gave in.”

Police are investigating the shooting.
