WASHINGTON — It’s been 10 years since Charnice Milton walked the halls of Bishop McNamara High School in Forestville, Maryland.
“She was a hard worker, she was focused, was very kind and always a bundle of joy,” said Marco Clark, president of the school.
Milton, 27, was shot and killed on Wednesday while walking along Good Hope Road in Southeast D.C. Police believe she was in the wrong place at the wrong time, and wasn’t the intended target .
Investigators are still looking for the person who pulled the trigger.
Clark was principal of the school when Milton, a 2005 graduate, attended Bishop McNamara High. He says Milton was committed to issues of justice and it didn’t surprise him that she became a reporter. He was pleased she chose the profession.
“Here it is a good young person out there, trying to do good things in the community,” Clark says, calling what happened to Milton both tragic and senseless.
Clark says the Bishop McNamara High community is mourning her loss and his heart goes out to Milton’s parents. They helped pave the way for her to attend Ball State University and then Syracuse University for a master’s degree in journalism.
Milton is the fourth member of her graduating class to die.
