3rd Street Tunnel work to narrow lanes for more than a year

WASHINGTON — Drivers in the District are facing another obstacle: long-term construction in the 3rd Street Tunnel.

Drivers are losing a lane on the 2nd Street off-ramp to Massachusetts Avenue Northwest from northbound I-395 for about a year and a half.

The speed limit on 395 will be reduced to 35 mph within the work zone, and police will reinstall speed cameras in the area, with fines doubled for work zones.

There will also be some new parking restrictions in the area: on D Street from 2nd Street to New Jersey Avenue, and on New Jersey Avenue from G Street to 2nd Street.

The closures went into effect Saturday night.
