Santa Trains return to VRE

WASHINGTON — While the reindeer are resting up ahead of Christmas, Santa and Mrs. Claus will be using Virginia Railway Express to get around.

As part of VRE’s annual Santa Train event, the jolly old elf and his better half will take trips throughout Northern Virginia, and families can join them on Dec. 10.

The trains, which have names like the Dasher Express and Rudolf Express, will be departing from six different Northern Virginia cities.

In addition to handing out goodies, Santa and his helpers will educate riders about train safety as part of the “Look, listen and live!” program from Operation Lifesaver.

The trains will depart from the Burke Centre, Broad Run, Fredericksburg, Manassas, Spotsylvania and Woodbridge stations.

Not many tickets remain for the trains. Tickets are sold out online, and few remain at three physical locations, where they’re available for $5 each:

Physical locations

  • About 100 tickets are available for the 8:30 train at the Fredericksburg Visitor Center, 706 Caroline St., Fredericksburg, VA 22401.
  • In Manassas, 9 a.m. tickets are still available at the Historic Manassas Visitor’s Center, 9431 West St. (train depot), Manassas, VA 20110.
  • Broad Run station tickets are also available at the Manassas Visitor’s Center.
  • About 300 tickets remain at the Spotsylvania Visitor Center, 4704 Southpoint Parkway, Fredericksburg, VA 22407.
