WASHINGTON — A Charles County Sheriff’s Deputy was sentenced to two years in prison after more than 100 images and several videos containing child pornography were found on his cellphone last year.
Former Charles County Sheriff’s Deputy Alexander Sullivan, a 38-year-old who had lived in Indian Head, Maryland, was sentenced to two years in prison followed by five years of supervised release for possession of child pornography.
The National Center for Missing and Exploited Children received four tips from a cloud security company about suspected child pornography that was being uploaded to a specific telephone number in October and November 2016.
A Charles County detective tasked with investigating recognized the number “as that belonging to a police officer employed by the Charles County Sheriffs Office,” according to charging documents. It was Sullivan’s personal cellphone.
A state search warrant was executed on Sullivan’s phone on Nov. 17, 2016, which yielded more than 100 images and at least seven videos of child porn.
The case was brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative launched in May 2006 by the Department of Justice to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse.
