WASHINGTON — The nonprofit United States Tennis Association’s Mid-Atlantic section will build a $15 million headquarters and state-of-the-art tennis facility in Prince William County’s Innovation Park in Manassas.

USTA will get a $100,000 grant from the Industrial Development Authority of Prince William County’s Economic Development Opportunity Fund as an incentive for choosing Innovation Park for the project.

With 44 acres of land under contract at 8995 Ellsworth Ave. — across from the George Mason University Science and Technology Campus — USTA Mid-Atlantic wlll develop the new facilities in phases, with completion expected by December 2021.

USTA expects to close on the land’s sale in March. (The organization’s current headquarters is in Reston, but it has no tennis facilities.)

USTA’s mission is promoting and developing the growth of tennis. It has 33,000 regional members.

The USTA says when open, the facility will create more than 40 full-time jobs, with salaries averaging about $68,000 a year.

“This is a significant milestone for tennis in the mid-Atlantic, and we look forward to supporting more local players, introducing the game to all ages, abilities and backgrounds, and the opportunity to inspire the next generation of tennis players in the region,” said Tera Fitzpatrick-Navarro, chief executive of USTA Mid-Atlantic.

USTA will use the new facilities to host programs, tournaments, recreational and public tennis play and special events.

Its new headquarters and tennis facilities will be joining several other active venues at Innovation Park, including the Hylton Performing Arts Center, Freedom Acquatic & Fitness Center and Farm Brew Live.
