Sin City tops Expedia’s list of top-searched travel spots

WASHINGTON — After 20 years, what is Expedia’s most-searched destination?

Expedia said Las Vegas is the most popular destination searched, whether flights only, hotels only or a combination of both.

Expedia Inc. turns 20 this year. To mark the occasion, the travel site waded through 20 year’s worth of hotel and airline bookings to find the trends.

The top 10 hotels booked through Expedia over the past 10 years have been in Las Vegas, followed by Orlando, New York, Los Angeles, San Diego and San Francisco.

Mexico is the top international destination for U.S. travelers, specifically Cancun.

Expedia said travelers who have booked through its sites in the past 20 years have flown 534 billion miles, and traveled to more than 2,100 cities in more than 220 countries, territories or colonies.

The most complex trip ever booked through Expedia was a 14-stage trip from Budapest to Tulsa that spanned 80 days.
