‘The Rock’ joins Under Armour team

WASHINGTON — Dwyane “The Rock” Johnson is Baltimore-based Under Armour’s newest celebrity business partner.

The actor and former WWE champion has signed on to a long-term partnership with the athletic apparel and footwear maker. Financial terms weren’t disclosed.

Johnson will help Under Armour promote its philanthropic endeavors as well as its brands. He will be a key player in Under Armour’s marketing of its new health monitoring Connected Fitness platforms, including the Under Armour HealthBox and Record apps.

Johnson, who has promoted health and fitness throughout his career, will also help Under Armour develop new products, including footwear and accessories inspired by his movies.

“We wanted to empower as many people as possible to attack their goals, so we partnered with the best innovators in the health and fitness business. Together with Under Armour, we will deliver game-changing products to help people get after it and chase greatness,” Johnson said in a statement.

There will also be Johnson-themed products including a backpack and duffle bag that Under Armour will start selling in the next few weeks.

Johnson, who won seven WWE Championships before becoming a big Hollywood box office draw, stars in “Central Intelligence” coming out later this year and is in production on the second season of HBO’s “Ballers.”

Johnson joins Under Armour’s long list of athlete partners including Stephen Curry, Tom Brady, Cam Newton, Misty Copeland, Jordan Spieth, Lindsey Vonn, Andy Murray and Michael Phelps.
