New outdoor specialty store opens in Woodbridge

WASHINGTON — Woodbridge, Virginia, became home to a new hunting, fishing
and outdoor sports retailer Tuesday when a Gander Mountain store opened its
doors to customers.

A 78,000-square-foot Gander Mountain store opened at 9 a.m. Tuesday at 14041
Worth Ave. in Woodbridge, adjacent to the Potomac Mills shopping
center. The retailer is an outdoor specialty stores for hunting, fishing,
camping, marine and outdoor lifestyle products and services.

“We are thrilled to bring a new Gander Mountain store to Woodbridge, and give
more of our friends in Virginia opportunities to experience our top-quality
gear and knowledgeable service at great prices,” said David Pratt, Gander
Mountain’s President and CEO, said in a news release.

Woodbridge’s store marks the fifth Gander Mountains location in the
commonwealth. The others are in Charlottesville, Fredericksburg, Roanoke and
Winchester.

The Woodbridge store is significantly bigger than other stores, which means
more staff, Jess Myers, a Gander Mountain spokesman, told InsideNova.

Most other locations employ between 50 and 75 people, but the Woodbridge store
has about 125 employees — most of whom are outdoor enthusiasts, store
manager Roger Pegram, said.

“In some cases, they’ve helped decide what we carry in the store,” Pegram told
InsideNova.

This store will have one of the largest selections of new and used firearms in
Virginia. Also, it will carry apparel as well as gear and accessories for
hunting, fishing, camping, boating and archery.
