Luke Garrett is a D.C. native dedicated to journalism. He’s a WTOP reporter and the host and producer of the WTOP weekly news podcast, ‘DMV Download’ — winner of the Chesapeake Associated Press Broadcasters Association ‘Best Podcast-Audio’ award. Luke is also the co-creator, host and producer of the original WTOP podcast, “Is It Normal Yet?!” The show debuted in 2021 and took a weekly look at how the D.C. region dealt with COVID-19.
He joined the WTOP newsroom in 2020 after graduating from the University of San Diego, where he studied physics and philosophy. He also led the student newspaper, The USD Vista, as Editor in Chief and covered the college admission scandal and student government. During his senior year, Luke reported on public safety as an intern at The San Diego Union-Tribune and went on to work for a Southern Californian wire service covering fires, shootings, police protests and the coronavirus pandemic.
