Bystanders’ quick actions save Arlington stabbing victim’s life

WASHINGTON — Two women are expected to survive a stabbing in an Arlington parking lot — across the street from county police headquarters.

Arlington County police say several people were arguing in a parking lot between 14th Street North and 15th Street North along North Courthouse Road at around 5:50 p.m. Saturday.

The parking lot is often used by patrons at the nearby AMC movie theater and by visitors to the county Justice Center.

Police said the argument then turned violent when Sharon Uwando stabbed two women.

Passers-by were able to disarm Wando and start treating the victims.

County officers were there about a minute later to continue rendering aid until Arlington County Fire and EMS could get to the scene.

The officers also arrested Uwando. She has since been charged with two counts of malicious wounding.

Police say both women are expected to survive. They credit the most critically injured person’s survival to the quick-acting bystander who jumped in to help.
