Motorcyclist dead, child in hospital after crash in Anne Arundel Co.

WASHINGTON — A motorcyclist is dead and a child is in the hospital after a crash Thursday in Gambrills, Maryland, police said.

Around 5:15 p.m. Thursday, officers responded to a crash on Maryland Route 3/Crain Highway northbound at Carver Road, Anne Arundel County police said. A motorcycle traveling northbound on the highway at a high rate of speed struck a minivan that was crossing over.

The motorcyclist, identified as 25-year-old Stuart Livingstone Jr. of Bowie, died at the scene, police said.

The minivan driver and a front-seat passenger had minor injuries, but refused medical treatment at the scene. A 2-year-old child in a car seat was flown to a hospital as a precaution with unknown injuries, police said.

Police believe the motorcycle’s excessive speed is the main cause of the crash, but an investigation is ongoing.
