WASHINGTON — Three burglary suspects have been arrested after leading police on a lengthy chase Monday morning that stretched from Anne Arundel County, Maryland, all the way to the District.
Officers chased the three for about 35 miles down the Baltimore-Washington Parkway and into Northeast D.C. where the suspects eventually left their car and took off on foot near the Rhode Island Avenue Metro stop.
“All three occupants attempted to run from the vehicle,” said Lt. Ryan Frashure with Anne Arundel County police. “Ultimately all three suspects were taken into custody.”
The suspects include 22-year-old Qaaree Palmer and Sammie Smith and 23-year-old Brittani Carney. Palmer and Carney are both from D.C. Smith is from Hyattsville, Maryland.
Police say the three wore masks and broke into a Sprint store at the Marley Station Mall in Glen Burnie just before 2 a.m. Monday. Mall security spotted them and notified county police, and that is when the suspects fled.
“Officers attempted to stop the vehicle, however the vehicle failed to stop and a pursuit was authorized,” said Frashure.
After the suspects were arrested, police found several stolen cellphones and a loaded handgun by their car.
The three will face burglary, theft and traffic charges, police say.
Two of the suspects, Palmer and Carney, were arrested without incident but Smith was injured. He was hit by a United States Park Police Cruiser during the foot pursuit and was taken to a hospital in stable condition.
