WASHINGTON — A former Anne Arundel County high school teacher has been sentenced to 18 months behind bars and must register for life on the state’s sex offender registry.
Nathan Lee Martin, 39, was found guilty last month of sex abuse of a minor, fourth degree sex offense by a person in a position of authority, fourth-degree sexual contact and second-degree assault.
The former math teacher at Arundel High School was convicted of inappropriately touching a 16-year-old girl in December 2015.
Prosecutors said the 16-year-old and her parents told county police that Martin had called the student to a closet at the back of a classroom. Authorities say Martin touched the girl’s buttocks and put his face on her chest.
Judge Michele Jaklitsch sentenced Martin to 10 years, and suspended all but 18 months plus five years of supervised probation.
Also, Martin is required to undergo psychosexual evaluation and treatment, barred from contact with the victim and must have no unsupervised contact with nonfamily members under the age 18.
