WASHINGTON — The U.S. Coast Guard and Maryland authorities are out on the Severn River for the second day searching for two missing hunters.
Natural Resources Police spokeswoman Candy Thomson says two witnesses made a 911 call Tuesday morning, saying they heard a person yelling for help and saw a man go under water about 100 yards from shore near the Sherwood Forest community in Anne Arundel County.
Later that morning, searchers found a life jacket and decoys about 100 yards from shore. Shortly after, authorities recovered a sunken Jon boat.
Thomson says the two boaters are believed to have been duck hunters who had recently dropped off someone at Smith’s Marina.
The hunters have been identified as Earling Stephen Lamp, of Stevensville, and Matthew Davis, of Glen Burnie. Both are 23 years old.
The 25-person search was temporarily suspended Tuesday night because of darkness.
The search for Lamp and Davis resumed Wednesday morning. Anne Arundel fire department spokesman Capt. Russ Davies says the efforts have shifted from a rescue to recovery.
