WASHINGTON — A mother and her 11-year-old son died early Monday in a Severna Park, Maryland, house fire.
Capt. Russ Davies, spokesman for Anne Arundel County Fire, said the fire broke out around 1:45 a.m. at a home in the 100 block of Benfield Road.
He said when firefighters arrived on the scene they found heavy fire in the rear of the one-story, single family home.
When the firefighters did a search and rescue, they found two victims in the front of the house later identified as 44-year-old Pauline Naylor and her son, 11-year-old William Burnapp III. They were pronounced dead at the scene.
It took about 40 firefighters 30 minutes to get the fire under control.
There were not other people in the house at the time of the fire and no one else sustained injuries, Davies says.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
The blaze caused an estimated $250,000 in damage to the residence, which is a complete loss, Davies says.
