Purrfect: North Carolina’s 1st cat cafe opens its doors

GREENSBORO, N.C. (AP) — North Carolina cat lovers now have a place to wet their whiskers at the state’s first cat cafe.

Local media outlets report Crooked Tail Cat Café opened Friday in downtown Greensboro.

Everyone is waking up and getting ready for breakfast! We’re all booked up for today but there will be plenty of walk-in availability next week.

Owner Karen Stratman describes Crooked Tail as a place where cats and humans can enjoy each other. For $10, visitors can spend an hour in the Kitty Lounge, where nine cats play among sofas, tables and cat perches.

There’s also a separate, cat-free coffee bar at the rear of the lounge. All of the cats at Crooked Tail are available for adoption.

The cat cafe concept originated in Taiwan in the late 1990s as places where people who love cats can interact with them without actually owning one.

Today is the day! We are opening our doors to the public. We will do our own ribbon cutting ceremony around 2:40 and let the first round of visitors in at 2:45. So we had something very special happen this evening. We had our first adoption before we’re even officially open!!! To everyone’s delight Tweedle Dum, who has been patiently waiting for his family for TWO YEARS, found his furever home! For those of you that are still wondering why we have to charge an entry fee to the Kitty Lounge, this is why. We save lives and the money you spend here goes towards a greater cause of keeping cats off the streets.
