Power outage sends some Alexandria students home early

WASHINGTON — An Alexandria elementary school closed early on Friday due to a power outage, school officials said.

John Adams Elementary School planned to send students home at 10 a.m. because there was no way to prepare food for lunch and there was no air conditioning in the building. School officials were told the outage would not be repaired until later in the day, officials said.

Students will be taken to Ramsay Elementary School on Sanger Avenue if their parents cannot pick them up from school or if their parents cannot meet them at home.

Phone lines were also down and parents were told to call the central office at 703-619-8003 to make arrangements for their child.
