Police canvassing neighborhood after Alexandria pool rape

WASHINGTON — Alexandria police have been knocking on doors in the neighborhood where a pool lifeguard said she was raped at gunpoint Saturday in a search for possible witnesses.

But the Labor Day weekend may be hindering the investigation, as police are finding many residents of the area off South Pickett Street aren’t home and are probably out of town for the holiday.

Alexandria police spokeswoman Crystal Nosal told WTOP officers will likely canvass the neighborhood again later this week.

The 24-year-old lifeguard was working Saturday afternoon at a private condominium pool in the 200 block of South Pickett Street when she was raped and abducted by a man with a gun at around 2 p.m., police said. No one else was at the pool when the assault occurred.

Alexandria Police describe the suspect as a tall, thin white man in his mid 30s with short hair and dark eyes. At the time of the assault, he was wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt, light-colored jeans and a blue baseball cap, police said.

Anyone with information about this incident or the assailant to contact the Alexandria Police Department at 703-746-6613.
