Temporary I-395 HOV lane closures start this week

WASHINGTON — Work crews are scheduled to begin preparations this week for summer construction of the Interstate 395 Express Lanes. Preliminary work March 8-12, overlapping into the early hours of March 13, will temporarily close the high-occupancy vehicle lanes.

The crews will be surveying and conducting other work starting 8 p.m. Wednesday, March 8.

To accommodate the activity, the HOV lanes will be closed overnight; Virginia Department of Transportation says the lanes will reopen for morning rush hour. The work will continue into the weekend, including Sunday morning, and wrap up for the start of next Monday morning’s rush hour.

During these hours, northbound drivers in the 95 Express Lanes will be routed to the regular lanes near Edsall Road. Southbound drivers on I-395 HOV lanes will be directed to the regular lanes near Boundary Channel Drive.

The project will extend the 95 Express Lanes for 8 miles north on I-395 to the D.C. border.
