Single tracking ends on Metro lines

WASHINGTON — Metro’s Blue and Orange lines are no longer single tracking and service has resumed on the Silver Line after an earlier train malfunction outside Stadium-Armory.

Orange Line Metro trains were running on one track between Stadium-Armory and Cheverly. The Blue Line was running on a single track between Stadium-Armory and Addison Road.

Silver Line trains are operating between Wiehle-Reston East and Largo Town Center after an earlier delay.

A test train that was running over some track that had been worked on over the weekend caught fire in the predawn hours of Monday on the elevated track that approaches the Stadium-Armory station after going over the Anacostia River.

The fire was small, and put out with a fire extinguisher, Metro says, but added at about 6 a.m. that repairs could take hours. All service was restored around 1:45 p.m.

The Red Line, which also experienced single tracking Monday morning, saw restored service by the afternoon too.
