Going to the Winter Classic? You must feed the meter

WASHINGTON — Fans headed to the Winter Classic on Jan. 1 should prepare themselves to pay to park on the street.

While most meters are turned off in D.C. on New Years Day, they will remain on around Nationals Park.  Under D.C. municipal regulations, events at the park supersede the federal holiday.

The confusion led to dozens of motorists receiving tickets on their vehicles after the Nationals game on Memorial Day.

DDOT chose to suspend the rules on July 4; city officials said they needed to look closer at the signs and messages around the ballpark.

The fine for not paying to park at Nationals Park on New Year’s Day is $100.
